Wonderful meal and excellent service. For the quality of food, also very reasonably priced. Nice sake selection too!

Food wise: 5/5, the robota was delicious and if you get 4 of those between you and someone else... You will be content! Service: 0/5, the night wasn't busy and we were seated then waited 20 minutes to get asked if we would like water. Our server seemed confused and would say contradicting statements about what was and was not available on the menu. We were served food twice before (third time is the charm) it was actually our meal. We also had an allergen at our table and told our server specifically to not include it... And of course it was all over our plate and hidden in the sushi. We had our food partially redone but I had already eaten a bit and couldn't eat more because my throat began to react. Overall I would give this place a 1/5 but my boyfriend said to be nice- but no amount of good food can fix poor service.

I hate writing negative reviews, so when I feel tepid about a restaurant I typically don't write one at all. However, my experience at Kemuri was negative enough that...here I am. I wanted very badly to like Kemuri: I was excited to try it, the ambiance and decor is elegant yet relaxed, and everyone working that we encountered was friendly and pleasant. However, the food is just not up to snuff. The crispy calamari had a soft (not crispy!), under-seasoned cake-y breading that was not enjoyable. Even with the dipping sauce (and some additional soy sauce) it was badly in need of flavor and salt. Ironically the squid itself was well cooked, which is typically the easiest part of the dish to mess up. We ordered several robata (charcoal grilled) dishes that varied in quality. The scallops had good flavor but were far overcooked (if you're going, try them - maybe they'll be cooked right). The eggplant was inedibly salty. I enjoy pungent, strong, extremely salty flavors, so if I can't eat it, I can't imagine who could. The asparagus was good, as was the pork loin. Every single sauce and marinade we had here was much too sweet, from the calamari dipping sauce to the robabta marinades. And the cocktails were mediocre (also overly sweet). The quality of the fish in the nigiri and sashimi was decent, especially for a landlocked state, but the most egregious thing about this dinner was the hatchet job that had been performed on our tuna and salmon sashimi. There are certain techniques and cuts of fish used in sushi making, and whatever happened here not only bears no resemblance to what sushi is supposed to be, but was so unattractive that even if this restaurant had invented sushi, I would think something had gone wrong. Pieces were uneven (both in thickness and shape) and the edges were ragged. I did a better job of cutting it in half with my chopsticks than the chef did cutting the pieces with a professional grade knife. Though nigiri and sashimi are my preferred sushi form, I would recommend getting rolls here, to hide the botched knife-work. As mentioned previously, the staff were friendly. However, more training is needed because they were a bit bumbling and borderline incompetent. We were sitting at the sushi bar and our waitress could *not* figure out how to set down dishes without making a huge ordeal out of it. This sounds really nitpicky, but I'm not a high maintenance diner - it just reached comical proportions by the end of the meal! She also took our plate away while it still had two large pieces of salmon sashimi on it. She made it all the way to the kitchen before realizing her mistake and brought the plate back with the salmon. Health code wise that doesn't bother me (I'll eat off the floor), but that's not exactly a fine dining experience. Most upscale restaurants would replace the dish with a new one. In all, if you've read this far, I'm not saying don't go here. I can imagine many couples (and other demographics) who are less particular about their sushi and have a different palate than mine having a perfectly lovely meal here. If you're a food lover or are at all cost-conscious, I think there are MUCH better meals to be had in Little Rock for this price. This was by far our most disappointing meal in Little Rock so far (not quite the worst meal, but the worst ratio of cost:quality and expectations:experience). I don't mind an expensive dinner, but since my budget is not unlimited, I want to make sure it's an experience commensurate with cost.

Hands down - one of the best sushi restaurants in LR. Server was a bit slow, but food was exquisite. Everything was incredibly fresh. Just moved here from NY and very impressed with this spot.

FAVORITE sushi spot in Little Rock! The sushi chefs are friendly and eager to answer any questions. The restaurant is a nice date night or girl night venue. THE Drinks are also delicious. My favorite roll is the crazy monkey. Tip: sit at the sushi bar and you get a free sushi appetizer! They rotate which roll they make but it's a great way to try new rolls. The robata and hibachi is super yummy as well. I eat everything on the menu. The customer service is wonderful which makes dining a pleasure. The manager remade my sushi because my server mangled it when placing it in the the to go box. TRY KEMURI TODAY! If you go in the weekend make a reservation.

You know what? I don't get it, I really don't. I saw all the hype and decided to make a go with dinner at Kemuri. It was a pretty sorry showing, I'm sad to say. Our server was great but that's about the only thing positive about our experience. First off, there was only one other table seated at the restaurant and we got sat right next to them. Then a third group arrived and yep, into the same clump. Uhhh well, I sure do love listening to everybody else's conversations when I'm trying to have a nice dinner out. This isn't a chain restaurant with a giant seating area and assigned waiter sections so I don't understand why they couldn't space us out better. Maybe I made a terrible, horrible mistake in ordering sushi but I have been done better by Kroger. The rice was excessive, still strangely warm and gummy, without sushi rice texture or flavor. The scallop nigiri tasted off in a "oh no stop eating" way, like the poor little scallops had been sitting around way too long. The Crazy Monkey roll is inexplicably risky to the server and once he started up his sad, lame little finger-risking fire show all I could do was apologize profusely for ordering it. We also had some Rotaba vegetables and they were ok, although I also feel that $6 for what is essentially 2 stalks of strangely peppery asparagus is robbery. Overall it was just horrible food, and I really wanted to believe all the glowing reviews... we won't be back.

The food here is quite good. We had the hamachi sashimi (yellow tail) and it was fresh in a ponzu sauce with scallions. The Pang nang curry was mediocre. We asked for it Thai hot and it came out less than mild. It also had way too much coconut milk in it and was too sweet. Not very authentic curry. But it is a "fusion" restaurant so it's not suppose to taste authentic I guess. For authentic Japanese food, go to Mt Fuji. Atmosphere is nice and elegant but for the giant TVs every where. If you want your spouse to not stare at the TV at dinner, ask for the dining room up front. The TVs really ruined the elegant dining experience of this place.

We decided to try out this restaurant during our visit to little rock. This restaurant is all about customer service, they even gave us a complimentary appetizer out of the blue. Their sushi is high quality, I would recommend the crazy monkey roll. Perfect setting for a nice romantic date.

In my humble opinion and for what it's worth... As a resident of central Arkansas for almost 34 years, there's not many restaurants I haven't dined at in this area at some point. Those who know me will tell you I'm picky, but when it comes to food I'm uber picky. Rarely do I take the time to recommend or leave a review-unless it's a showstopper. To those who are foodies/seekers of the best restaurants in Little Rock: I chose to dine at Kemuri after some folks mentioned it was awarded 2014's Best New Little Rock restaurant among the other awards and recognitions voted by Little Rock citizens after being open only a couple of months. Kemuri's ambience and food is unlike any other you'll find in Arkansas and easily surpasses some of the best spots I've eaten in CA, NY, and Europe. They have a full menu, but as far sushi, I would estimate they offer over 50 different house sushi, sashimi, nigiri specialities to pick from and their prices are comparable, if not cheaper, than other places that serve sushi locally especially r/t portion sizes, taste, quality, etc. They have a full menu, but if it's your first time as far as sushi here's a few you might want to check out : Crazy Monkey, The Hawaiian, Alexa Special, Mason Roll (This one is a bit more expensive than any of the other sushi options b/c it's made with lobster and filet, but worth it if you want to treat yourself:)

The sushi here was really good, surprisingly. I wasn't expecting much after reading the previous reviews on this place. We ordered a dragon roll and some sort of mango roll, as well as some assorted nigiri. Both were very good. The atmosphere is lovely, however I do feel that it's a little but overpriced. I've had equally as good sushi back home in Vegas for much less.

I have been to Kemuri several times now and felt i have to write a review... Having lived in both Hong Kong and NYC, I am impressed that Little Rock has a japanese restaurant delivering the same quality of food and service you would see in hubs of the world. I am originally from Arkansas and must admit if you're not familiar with robata, the portions for price may seem expensive compared to the quantity of food many other restaurants in LR offer but it's the quality and taste and experience you're paying for.. The Ribs and the presentation are wicked, the enoki mushrooms are delicious if you're into that, the beef tenderloin incredible but I recommend the entree over the robata, just get a couple of robatas as starters or skip that altogether. If you're on a budget, the biggest bang for the buck is the sushi, and that's why I'm actually spending the time to write a review right now... the sushi is huge portions and some of the best sushi i've ever had... it's the standard i expect at some of my favorite sushi restaurants in NY, San Fran, LA, etc........... there really is nothing to compare the sushi to in Arkansas period other than their sister restaurant, Ocean's. Alot of the sushi are similar cuts but both restaurants have different unique rolls, some that are not on the menu. I'm a big sushi fan and felt compelled to tell fellow Arkansans or travellers to go to Kemuri. If you do not like sushi or even japanese food for that matter, there are many great plates and fishes (The Black Cod!!!). Also i have no sweet tooth, but the cappuccino jar consistently gives me one, top your dine off with it, you will not regret.

I would recommend this place to anyone. The black cod is amazing. Every dish we had looked incredible and tasted wonderful. The shrimp was succulent and the atmosphere was classy and but relaxed. The service was excellent and the Manager and Head Chef both came by to see how our experience was. Wow.

We tried out Kemuri for the first time last night. Overall, a very fine dining experience for Little Rock. Being in the mood for Sushi, we decided to try it out. We had the Crazy Monkey Roll, the Dragon Roll, and the Crunchy Shrimp Roll. The Crazy Monkey Roll was by far the best. As good as any roll I have had anywhere. 5 stars on that roll. The Dragon roll was very good as well coming in at 4. The Crunchy Shrimp Roll was just OK. A 3 star roll at best. It tasted fine, just a little light on the shrimp, and heavy on the rice. Probably more rice in that roll than on any roll I have ever had. In addition to the rolls, we tried the robata, ordering the scallops. They were quite good. 4 stars. If they had been on the grill just a few seconds less, they would have been a 5 star dish. The seasoning was perfect on them, just a tad overcooked. The wait staff was super, and the sushi chefs were very nice while working like crazy making up rolls. The atmosphere was top notch. If I could have given a 4.5 star rating overall, I would have. My wife and I both decided we would have to make dinner reservations next time and try out some of the other menu items besides the sushi. I definitely recommend Kemuri. UPDATE: I ate lunch here last week and it was awesome. Went back today and found it no longer is open for lunch. Disappointing, but I will still come back for dinner sometime.

My wife and I ventured to Kemuri on a Friday night to try something new. With it being open for only a short time, we knew it had the possibility of being packed. However, even though we walked in without a reservation, they were able to get us a seat immediately on the back side of the large restaurant. The decor is beautiful. Our waiter was excellent. The noise level was loud, but it had the feel of a big-city, modern, "all the beautiful people come here" feel to it. But let's get to the food. We decided to do a mussels appetizer since we get them anywhere we go. The waiter said to get rice to accompany it to soak up the coconut/lemongrass flavored broth. Bread would've been a lot better, but the rice worked fine, albeit being underdone. The mussels themselves in the broth was fabulous. A great thai take on the normal white wine and garlic style. Would most definitely order these again. Instead of going the sushi route, we decided to do several hot plates. The sushi looked decent enough, but (this is an Arkansas problem, not just Kemuri) why does every roll need cream cheese? We chose the baby back ribs, gochujang chicken, and salmon hot plates. The hot plates were small (which we knew), but delicious. However, the chicken was completely raw in the middle. I did not realize this to the second or third bite due to the lighting and temperature. I immediately notified our waiter who was very nice and immediately removed our dishes from the table. The owner/manager (?) came to our table to apologize. I told him I was mainly worried about getting sick and he told me not to worry because "we use the finest ingredients and we marinate the chicken." I rolled my eyes from this statement, but told him the rest of the food was great. Our waiter asked us if we would like dessert on them, but I felt weird asking for anything else. When we received our check, they took off the chicken and one other hot plate "for our troubles," I assume. Even though the raw chicken sullied our experience to Kemuri, we really enjoyed everything else about this place and will definitely try it again in the future.

I've had sushi and seafood all around the world so to have great quality and fresh options here in Little Rock is absolutely amazing! The atmosphere is beautiful, perfect for a date or night out with friends. I've ate here several times and everything I've tried is unbelievable! Even if you don't like sushi there's tons of options, between the robata and the entrees. But if you do love sushi they have a wonderful selection! I really like the Mummy Roll. The black cod and hibachi rice are my favorite entree. I'd recommend the miso soup, spicy tuna on crispy rice, or yellowtail appetizers to start with. As far as the robata (which are small skewers recommended to share as apps) I really like the ribs, scallops, and shisto peppers. The cappuccinio jar is one of the best desserts I've ever had in my life and I have a really hard time sharing it because it's so good. I'll be back soon!
